CAPIZ — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Capiz is urging eligible voters to register early for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) scheduled on November 2, 2026, should the polls proceed as planned.
In a local radio interview, Atty. Wil Arceño, assistant regional director of Comelec Region 6, emphasized the importance of early registration to avoid last-minute congestion that may prevent some voters from completing the process on time.
He said first-time voters, particularly the youth, should take advantage of the registration period and familiarize themselves with the documentary requirements.
As of April, Capiz has approximately 538,633 registered regular voters, according to Arceño.
He added that around 197,357 young people in the province are eligible to vote in the Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The SK elections are open to voters aged 15 to 17, while participants in the regular barangay elections must be at least 18 years old.
Arceño warned that delaying registration until the final days may result in overcrowded registration centers, longer waiting times, and possible failure to meet the deadline.
Comelec said it is committed to providing the public with the necessary information and assistance to ensure a smooth registration process.
Eligible voters are encouraged to review the requirements and register as early as possible to ensure they can participate in the upcoming elections.
The BSKE will determine local leaders at the barangay and youth council levels, making voter participation essential to community governance, Arceño said./PN
