MANILA – Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Andres Bautista filed five criminal charges against his wife Patricia Paz Bautista.
Filed at the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office, the charges were qualified theft, extortion, robbery, and grave coercion, and grave threat, Bautista said at the start of the ballot printing for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
“We already filed the case on Tuesday,” Bautista said yesterday. “It is best for me not to speak about it (the case) at this point. We know some parties are taking advantage of the situation.”
Bautista hopes the controversy, which already affected their children, ends soon. He said one of his sons stopped attending school after getting bullied.
“Iyong pangalawa, dalawang araw nang hindi pumapasok. Iyong pangatlo, medyo matamlay. Ito po iyong mga hamon na hinaharap ng aming pamilya ngayon,” he said.
“Ako ay hindi kapit-tuko. Siyempre tinitimbang ko ang aking mga responsibilidad sa aking pamilya, sa aking trabaho, at titingnan ko po kung ano ang magandang gawin para masilbihan ang interes ng aking pamilya at ng taumbayan,” he added.
Patricia claimed she discovered bank and real property documents, and several passbooks under Bautista’s name that were not included in his 2016 statement of assets, liabilities and net worth, or SALN.
She reportedly filed an affidavit last week, alleging that Bautista “might have had, or currently has, misdealing and corrupt practices while in government service.”
Bautista denied the allegations. He suspected some personalities were using his wife for an agenda. The documents shown by his wife were fabricated so they could extort money from him, he claimed./PN
