ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here is seeing strong public engagement, recording 2,159 applications within the first 10 days since the resumption of voter registration on October 20.
The applications include new voter registrations, transfers, corrections of entries, changes of civil status, reactivations, and updates for senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and other members of the vulnerable sector.
Comelec-Iloilo City reminded residents that registration is essential to participate in the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and Barangay Elections set for November 2, 2026.
“Your voice matters in a vibrant democracy. However, registration is a prerequisite to exercise your right to suffrage,” the office stated.
Registration runs from October 20, 2025, to May 18, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday, including holidays.
To make registration more accessible, Comelec-Iloilo City launched satellite registration centers across barangays in Jaro district throughout November. These include the Uswag Gym in Barangay Buntatala (Nov. 3), City Mall Tagbac (Nov. 4), Bito-on Day Care Center (Nov. 5), and several others up to November 15, with applications accepted at the Election Office in Mabini Street from November 16 to 30.
Applicants are advised to bring valid identification documents.
For regular voters (18 years old and above), a government-issued ID and its photocopy are required.
For Katipunan ng Kabataan (KK) members aged 15–17, a birth certificate and school or government-issued ID must be presented.For those applying for correction of entries or change of civil status, documentary proof such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate, or court order is required.
The office clarified that barangay IDs, cedulas, company IDs, and police clearances will not be accepted as valid identification.
Comelec officials reiterated that early registration is key to avoiding long queues as the 2026 elections draw near, encouraging residents to take advantage of the ongoing registration period to ensure their right to vote./PN
