MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte certified as urgent the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), which seeks to create a Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
Duterte has received the proposed BBL drafted by the Bangsamoro Transition Commission.
At the turnover rites in Malacañang, he requested House of Representatives and Senate leaders to “consider it (BBL) immediately.”
“May I say to you, my brother Moros, that I commit to support — in front of everybody — my covenant with you, that I will support … this instrument as it goes in the legislature for consideration,” Duterte said on Monday.
“And there will be no objections [to] the provisions of all that is consistent with the Constitution and the aspiration of the Moro people,” he added.
The proposed BBL must be fine-tuned and adopt inputs from consultations, hearings and 17 years of negotiations, Sen. Paolo Benigno Aquino IV said.
It is seen to promote peace and development, education, and jobs in Mindanao, and thus crucial to fighting terrorism, rebellion and crime, said Aquino.
“Masusugpo natin ang matagal nang problema sa Mindanao, lalo na ang terorismo at rebelyon, sa pamamagitan ng kaunlaran, trabaho at edukasyon,” he said.
“If prosperity for every Filipino is the goal, let’s pass the best possible version of the BBL,” the senator added./PN
