MANILA – The Philippine delegation continued its gold medal haul on Day 4 of the 2017 ASEAN School Games in Singapore.
James Lozañes of Iloilo province bested his rivals in javelin throw boys with a tournament record of 66.36m on Tuesday.
Lozañes tallied his personal best — 59.63m — at the Palarong Pambansa just this April in San Jose, Antique.
A day earlier, swimmer Jerald Dominic Jacinto’s silver medal in the 100m backstroke boys was upgraded to a gold medal after finishing with the same time as Setyawan Daniel of Indonesia, 59.60.
Marvin John Rafols claimed that day’s second gold after topping the triple jump boys with 15.02m, beating Indonesian Nattapong Srinonta (14.91m) and Filipino Karl Arvyn Aquino (14.88m).
The Philippines also had two silver medals on Monday courtesy of Edwin Giron in 1,500m run boys and swimmer Maurice Sacho Ilustre in 50m butterfly boys.
Bronze medalists that day were Je Anne Calis in 800m run girls, Mary Jane Combate in 200m girls, James Orduna in 1,500m boys, the 4x100m relay girls team, and the badminton girls team.
Meanwhile, the Philippine volleyball girls team scored its second win by sweeping Singapore 26-24, 25-17, 25-11. The boys team also notched a 2-0 record with a four-setter victory, also over Singapore.
In basketball, the Filipino girls team was on course to a gold-medal finish after scoring 77-75 against Thailand while the boys team suffered a 54-63 defeat to Thailand.
The Philippine team is currently in fifth place with an 11-6-16 gold-silver-bronze medal tally behind Indonesia (19-21-17), Thailand (19-13-19), Singapore (17-19-19), and Vietnam (13-18-8)./PN
