ILOILO City – A police officer assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding Administrative Office of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) faces administrative and criminal charges for illegal discharge of firearm.
Senior Police Officer 4 Pierre Espada, 46, of Barangay Sapa, Miag-ao, Iloilo fired his service firearm, a .9mm pistol, before leaving Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao district on April 23.
Espada had himself admitted at the hospital for hypertension on April 21. Dissatisfied with the medical service there, he left the hospital without securing a discharge slip on Sunday night, according to Chief Inspector Al Bigay, police chief of Mandurriao.
He threatened the hospital security guard who tried to stop him from leaving, added Bigay.
Espada boarded a taxi but before the vehicle could leave, he fired his gun in the air, said Bigay.
“Nagalit siya kasi hindi siya binigyan ng pansin. Nasa emergency room siya for two days already kasi mataas ang blood pressure n’ya. Sa sobrang galit umalis siya kaso lang nagpaputok, which was improper for a police officer to do,” said Bigay.
From the WVMC, Espada proceeded to Camp Delgado where he was arrested.
