ILOILO City – A police officer faces investigation following an altercation with a member of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in La Paz district yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Guiller Alacre was ordered to turn over his government-issued firearm, a .9mm, to his mother unit and submit an explanation letter as to what happened.
Alacre and Staff Sergeant Felicito Aguirre, assigned at the Military Intelligence Group (MIG), had a tiff around 12:30 a.m.
According to Senior Inspector Rey Sumagaysay of the La Paz police station, Alacre – assigned at the Regional Headquarters Support Group of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) – was drunk and fired his gun twice near the house of his neighbor Aguirre.
Aguirre reportedly fired his gun, too.
“No one was hurt. They likely fired their guns into the air and avoided a shootout,” said Sumagaysay.
Responding La Paz policemen recovered empty shells from the following guns: a .9mm pistol, a .45 pistol, an M16 armalite rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun.
“We have yet to establish who owned which guns. Aguirre and Alacre were not in the area when our men arrived,” said Sumagaysay.
In a radio interview, Aguirre’s wife, Margilyn claimed Alacre and two companions were the ones who fired first.
Alacre declined to issue a statement. If evidence warrants, he faces administrative charges, said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director.
Sources said Alacre and Aguirre had a misunderstanding over a basketball game between the respective teams of their sons./PN
