BACOLOD City – Police Station 8 has detained one of its police officers after he allegedly shot a theft suspect in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, commander of Police Station 8, said they are withholding the name of the police officer pending investigation.
From what the police station gathered so far, the officer responded to a theft report in the village.
The suspect – a minor – allegedly opened fire at the police officer prompting the latter to fire a warning shot, a police report showed.
But the officer’s bullet hit the concrete ground and ricocheted, hitting the minor on the head, the report further stated.
The minor was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced “dead on arrival.”
The incident happened on Oct. 20.
Police Station 8 was still investigating the incident./PN
