ILOILO City – A drunken man was shot by a police officer in Barangay Agboy, Leon, Iloilo.
The 59-year-old Jimmy Antipatia of Barangay Cadingalian, Oton, Iloilo sustained gunshot wounds on the shoulder and feet, a police report showed.
Police Senior Master Sergeant Jay Cababasay of the municipal police station allegedly shot Antipatia using an M-16 rifle.
The incident happened around 7:58 a.m. on Feb. 29.
Police investigators said Cababasay responded to a report that bolo-wielding Antipatia was harassing some residents.
Cababasay introduced himself as a policeman and told Antipatia to stop, but the latter tried to attack the officer.
He shot Antipatia on the right shoulder, but the latter recovered and tried to charge at him again, so the policeman shot him on the right foot.
Antipatia was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district for treatment./PN
