ILOILO City – Murder and frustrated murder charges were filed against a police officer who shot dead a karaoke bar owner and wounded the latter’s helper in Barangay Loong, Concepcion, Iloilo.
The complaints against Police Officer 1 JV Longno of the Regional Public Safety Battalion were lodged before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutor’s Office yesterday by Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, Concepcion police chief.
The shooting happened Friday night last week. The 44-year-old John Namod died of a gunshot wound on the head while Lindy Franco, 52, sustained a gunshot wound on a foot.
Longno was made to take a Character Aptitude Development and Enhancement Training last month at the Police Regional Office 6 in Camp Delgado, Panay News learned.
“He had an attitude problem. The training aimed to shape his character for the better, unfortunately he got into trouble,” said Senior Superintendent Harold Tuzon, director of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office.
On Friday night, Longno was with several female companions singing while binge drinking at Namod’s karaoke bar.
According to Pinuela, Longno got angry when Franco told them to stop, citing a curfew. An argument flared up.
Namod tried to pacify the two but failed.
Longno used his service firearm, a .9mm pistol, to shoot Franco then Namod.
The policeman fled after the shooting but after three hours turned himself in to his superior, Inspector Rico Sta. Ana.
Longno also surrendered his .9mm pistol./PN
