ILOILO City –– A complaint of attempted homicide has been filed against a policeman accused of shooting his colleague during a heated argument at the Guimaras Police Provincial Office (GPPO) in Barangay Alaguisoc, Jordan, Guimaras.

Police Corporal Erwin Ferrer, 33, was charged by his his fellow officer Police Staff Sergeant Jeremy Minerva, 35, of Arevalo district for the crime of frustrated homicide.

Minerva however was released from detention cell of Jordan police station, hours after paying a P72,000 bail bond. But he was still under restriction by the GPPO.

Both Ferrer and Minerva were members of the Guimaras Provincial Mobile Force.

The shooting happened at around 4:05 a.m. at the GPPO mess hall.

Ferrer and Minerva have just returned to the GPPO from the field, according to Police Colonel Hector Maestral.

There was a heated argument between the two policemen, with Ferrer eventually drawing his gun, a Glock 17 pistol.

The duty guard, Police Corporal Francis Joe Sartaguda, tried to disarm Ferrer and Minerva tried to help Sartaguda.

The gun, unfortunately, went off, hitting Minerva.

“I have time and again reminded them not to drink liquor while on duty…but they are really hard-headed,” said Maestral.

He ordered the immediate relief of Ferrer, who could face criminal and administrative charges.

Maestral also relieved the Guimaras Provincial Mobile Force chief, Police Lieutenant Colonel Raymund Cruz for command responsibility.
