BACOLOD City – Police have identified a suspect in the fatal shooting of the father of Negros Island Region illegal drug suspect Ricky Serenio.
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting city police director, told Panay News on Thursday Police Station 8 will file murder charges anytime soon.
Several John Does will be included in the charge sheet, Wanky said.
The 53-year-old Wilfredo Serenio was shot to death in Barangay Singcang-Airport on May 22.
His death came more than a month after his son Wilmar, 31, was killed in the same village.
Wanky refused to disclose the suspect’s name. All he said was a witness pointed the police to them and described them as “long-haired.” Police were also withholding the name of the witness.
Wilfredo was talking to someone on the roadside around 10:10 p.m. when two people riding in tandem in a motorcycle got near and peppered him with bullets, Police Station 8’s initial investigation showed.
Police Station 8 was looking into personal grudge as possible motive in Wilfredo’s death.
Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman Jr., station commander, noted that, three months ago, Wilfredo filed at their station an attempted homicide charge against someone who shot him.
The Serenio family matriarch, Gina, asked the government for protection.
Two police officers were deployed to secure the Serenio residence where a wake was ongoing, Wanky said./PN
