ILOILO City – Police shot and killed a suspected robber in Barangay Kinagdan, Igbaras, Iloilo.
Ricky Gevero of the same barangay died of multiple gunshot wounds.
He fired at officers trying to catch him, said Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, Iloilo Police Provincial Office director.
Gevero flagged down a JRL taxi last Friday night and tried to rob the driver Frank Eraldo, police investigation showed.
But the passenger – Kinagdan barangay captain Jomar Esmeralda – quickly called the police station.
Gevero fired at the responding officers three times but missed. Police then returned fire and hit the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the Guimbal District Hospital where he expired.
Moments before the shootout, at around 9:30 p.m., Gevero flagged down a motorcycle and pistol-whipped the driver, Arlie Brian Duran of this city, causing the latter a head injury, police said, citing witnesses.
A .45 pistol with three ammunition and three empty shells were recovered from the crime scene./PN
