Court orders arrest of man charged with illegal fishing

BACOLOD City – The police served an arrest warrant to a man charged with illegal fishing 29 years ago in Cadiz City.

Benjamin Layawon Tombay, 52, was a resident of Sitio Candumong, Barangay Sicaba, Cadiz City.

Judge Reynaldo M. Alon, then acting presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 60 in Cadiz City, issued the arrest warrant on Sept. 29, 1992 yet.

It was served to Tombay at around 2:05 p.m. on Dec. 15 in, Barangay 1 Poblacion (Zone 1), Cadiz City.

Tombay was specifically charged with violation of Presidential Decree 704 that, among others, prohibited dynamite fishing.

Cops took Tombay to the Cadiz City police station.

As this was being written, it was unclear if he was able to post bail that the court set at P25,000./PN
