ILOILO City – The Central Philippine
University (CPU) Golden Lions and the Iloilo selection emerged as champions of
the men’s and women’s 18-21 year-old category of the 1st Dinagyang Futsal
Invitation Championship on Jan. 23 at the Jaro Gymnasium.
The Golden Lions clinched the men’s division trophy
after sweeping their five matches, including a come-from behind 7-5 upset
versus Cabatuan in their final assignment.
Cabatuan nearly spoiled the Golden Lions’ coronation after it lead 5-2 in the
opening half, but the other half was all about the CPU blasting five unanswered
goals.
The other teams that the Golden Lions conquered were Western Institute of Technology (7-6), Janiuay Defenders Football Club Inc. (9-3), Jalandoni National High School (9-2) and Iloilo Science and Technology University (10-1).
In the distaff side, the WVRAA Meet-bound Iloilo selection emerged as champion, while Barotac Nuevo and CPU Golden Lions settled for second and third runner- up finishes, respectively.
The champions of the men’s and women’s futsal event took home a P10,000 top prize, the first runner-up bagged home P7,000, while the second runner-up earned P5,000.
The 1st Dinagyang Futsal Invitational Championship was organized by the Futsal Association of Panay, supported by the Iloilo City Sports Development Division./PN
