ILOILO City – Central Philippine University (CPU) has expressed grief over the sudden death of one of its students and appealed for respect for the family’s privacy as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The student died on the afternoon of June 9, 2026, prompting an outpouring of sorrow from the university community and a formal statement from the institution extending condolences and support to the bereaved family.
CPU officials confirmed that the cause of death remains under investigation and said the university would not release specific details out of respect for the wishes of the family.
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely death of one of our students on June 9, 2026. In this incredibly difficult time, we remember in prayer his family, classmates, and friends. The University extends our full support to his family, and is in close coordination with them,” the university said in a statement.
The administration emphasized that the loss has deeply affected students, faculty members, and staff, who continue to mourn the passing of a member of the CPU community.
“We pray that our Loving God will bring comfort and strength to the family and their loved ones. Let us all respect the family’s privacy during this time of grief,” the statement added.
University officials reiterated the importance of allowing the family space to grieve while assuring continued support for those affected by the tragedy.
CPU also called on students, alumni, faculty members, and the public to remember the young life that was lost and to keep the family, friends, and classmates of the deceased in their thoughts and prayers.
As of press time, authorities had yet to release findings regarding the student’s death, with the investigation still ongoing.
