BACOLOD City – A 15-year-old boy died after a truck hit the motorcycle he was riding around 3 p.m. on Sunday in Purok Progreso, Barangay Sum-ag.

Police Officer 2 Rogel Superal, investigator for Police Station 9, identified the fatality as Kenneth Sayosa, a resident of Sum-ag.

His fellow passenger and cousin Danela Sayosa, 11, and grandfather Charlie Sayosa, 62, who was driving the motorcycle, were injured. Both were Sum-ag residents, too.

Both vehicles were southbound at the time of the crash.

The truck, driven by Ivek Castel, 44, of Barangay Alijis, Valladolid, Negros Occidental, tried to overtake the motorcycle but swept the latter’s steering handlebar, Superal said, citing investigation.

The impact caused the motorcycle to lose balance and its passengers and driver to get thrown off, said Superal.

Kenneth was dead on the spot, while Danel and Charlie had undergone treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and were in a stable condition, Superal said.

Castel was facing a charge for reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and multiple injuries and damage to property. He was detained at the Police Station 9 lockup cell. (Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod/PN)
