MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers continued its winning run in the Premier V-League Open Conference by beating Power Smashers 25-22, 25-21, 25-22 on Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.

Veterans Rosemarie Vargas and Pauline Soriano led the way with 15 points apiece while Coleen Bravo added 13 markers for Cool Smashers, which secured a semifinals seat.

Despite the absence of Alyssa Valdez, who joined the national women’s volleyball team in training in Japan, Cool Smashers remained formidable to tally its fifth straight victory in as many matches.

“What is good with our team is that all our players are ready to play,” said Cool Smashers assistant coach Oliver Almandro. “Our other players are also doing well in the practices and we are glad that it showed in our game.”

Power Smashers had a strong start and was ahead by 6 points early before Cool Smashers rallied to tie the count at 20. Vargas scored two straight while Julia Morado had a drop shot to take the opening set for Creamline.

Just like in the first set, Power Smashers built another huge lead in second frame but Creamline staged another rally for a 21-all score before Vargas managed clutch hits to complete another come-from-behind set win.

In the third set, Power Smashers surged 22-20 after a tight exchange. Creamline quickly erased this for a 22-all deadlock, and then Soriano executed back-to-back points for a straight-set win.

Jovelyn Prado finished with 15 points, on 12 attacks, 2 blocks and a service ace, while Regine Arocha added 10 markers for Power Smashers, which slid to a 1-4 win-loss slate./PN
