MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers bucked the absence of key players to score a 25-11, 25-15, 25-17 sweep over BaliPure Water Defenders in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.


Jessica Galanza spearheaded the attack with 17 points, on 14 attacks, two service aces and a block, while Risa Sato chipped in 10 markers.

The Cool Smashers stretched their unbeaten run to 10 games.


Kyle Negrito also dished out 17 excellent sets on Wednesday as the Cool Smashers won despite the absence of Alyssa Valdez due to injury and Julia Morado due to national volleyball team duty.


“Sobrang nakaka-proud kasi hindi lang ‘yung inaasahan, ‘yung makakapuntos talaga, pati ‘yung mga nasa labas,” said Galanza. “Talagang ready sila anid andun ‘yung eageirness nila, talagang gusto nila maglaro.”


Grace Bombita top-scored with eight points as the Water Defenders suffered its fifth consecutive defeat to slid down to 2-8 win-loss record.


Meanwhile, PacificTown-Army Lady Troopers bucked the absence of Guimarasnon Jovelyn Gonzaga to pull off a 25-11, 25-23, 25-17 straight set triumph over Chef’s Classic Lady Red Spikers.


Honey Royce Tubino and Jem Guttierez delivered 15 points each, while veteran Mary Jean Balse-Pabayo chipped in 10 markers as the Lady Troopers improved to 5-4 win-loss card./PN
