MANILA – Even without Alyssa Valdez, the Bureau of Customs Transformers will still suit up in the Philippine V-League (formerly Shakey’s V-League) this year.
Transformers head coach Sherwin Meneses said he is currently recruiting players to replace Valdez, who recently signed with the Thai team 3BB Nakornnont and might not be available for the local league.
“I have yet to talk with the Customs management, but I can tell them that we can still compete in the upcoming V-League,” he stressed. “We are currently recruiting spikers if Alyssa (Valdez) will not be around by competition time.”
The Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles assistant coach added: “As much as we want to keep Alyssa from playing abroad, we cannot do so. She is also carrying the Philippine flag when she plays in Thailand.”
According to Meneses, Customs commissioner Nicanor Faeldon also wants the Transformers to continuously participate in the V-League in a bid to cleanse the name of the bureau.
“Faeldon has said that our stint in V-League is long-term since we want to use the league to show the people that the Customs is not a corrupt office,” said Meneses.
In its first conference in the V-League, the Transformers — led by Valdez and Thai reinforcements Kanjana Kuthaisong and Nic Jaisaen — finished as a runner-up to Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.
“I am just hoping that we can maintain our lineup for the first conference,” said Meneses. “And since it will be reinforced, we are hoping that our Thai imports will be available by that time, and also Alyssa,” he said./PN
