MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima said the ethics complaint filed against her is only an “attempt” by the House of Representatives “to save face.”
De Lima on Tuesday also called the series of investigations into the alleged Bilibid drug trade, a “farce.”
A 13-page ethics complaint filed before the Senate on Monday accused the senator of disrespecting the House of Representatives. It was filed by representatives Pantaleon Alvarez, Rodolfo Farinas and Reynaldo Umali.
The complainants criticized the senator, a former Justice secretary, for ordering her ex-driver and bodyguard Ronnie Dayan not to attend the House’s Bilibid drug probe.
Both de Lima and Dayan were tagged by convicted drug personalities in illegal drugs. The drug convicts claimed funding the senatorial campaign of de Lima during the May 2016 Elections in exchange of protection.
“As I have repeatedly said, the first casualty of the administration’s ‘war on drugs’ is the truth. And it seems those in power are determined to do everything they could to accomplish their personal and political agendas,” said de Lima.
“Little do they know that the public is slowly beginning to realize who are responsible for the real crisis our nation is facing, because they have no real accomplishments to show after six months in power.”/PN
