MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima on Thursday said she intends to skip the testimony of her former driver, Ronnie Dayan, who is set to face a Senate inquiry next week.
“Baka hindi. Hindi ako dadating sa punto na mag-testify sila, especially si Ronnie Dayan, pero mag-attend ako kapag iba na,” de Lima said in an interview.
“I just don’t want to create an atmosphere na ganoon ulit,” she added, referring to a hearing of the House justice committee, members of which de Lima has referred to as “chauvinist, sickening sexist pigs.”
Some members of the House panel have been criticized for their tacky questions that zeroed in on de Lima’s romantic affair with Dayan
Dayan, who is de Lima’s former driver-bodyguard, is scheduled to face the Senate public order committee on Monday, Dec. 5.
Testifying before the congressional inquiry, Dayan earlier said that de Lima received money from alleged drug lord Kerwin Espinosa five times in 2014.
De Lima noted the inconsistencies between Dayan and Espinosa’s testimonies. Espinosa had appeared before the same Senate committee last week and claimed that he gave P8 million to de Lima in 2015.
“Tingnan natin kung ano ang scenario sa Monday. Will both of them insist on their respective versions or nagkasundo na sila? Nasabihan na sila ng respective handlers nila na ‘itugma niyo naman yung kwento niyo para hindi katuwa-tuwa kami,” she said.
If and when their testimonies corroborate, however, de Lima said their credibility is already “destroyed.”
“When they suddenly change their respective versions to corroborate each other, that’s too late for them to correct that,” she said. (GMA News)
