MANILA – Sen. Leila de Lima urged Filipinos to be “very vigilant” and “discerning” in relation to the current alert level issued after a suspected bomb was found on Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
“Siyempre hindi pa natin alam ‘yung anong katotohanan diyan. We can give the benefit of doubt na maaari nga there is such threat,” de Lima said.
A day after the arrest of two suspects allegedly linked with international terror group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, the Philippine National Police (PNP) last Thursday placed the whole country under terror alert level 3.
With the alert level, PNP chief Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said that people should expect “strong checkpoints,” “Oplan Sita,” “raids being conducted by all security forces on suspected terrorist personalities.”
Skeptical about the foiled Roxas Boulevard attack, de Lima said that the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte is “capable of lies and deceptions also in graver matters of national security.”
Based on her experience, the lady senator, a staunch critic of Duterte, said she has been accused of many things, including her alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
The government, she lamented, has failed to investigate and file cases against the true protectors of drug syndicates in the country.
“Bakit ako pa lang ang sinasampahan nila? Kasi ako ang pinpilit nila na ipakita sa buong mundo na coddler at protector. Gusto kong makita ang resulta ng imbestigasyon ng mga iba. Nasaan ‘yung mga tunay na mga coddlers at mga protectors? Nasaan na nga ba ‘yang Peter Lim na ‘yan?” de Lima asked.
Lim, a Cebu-based businessman, is a suspected drug lord operating in the Visayas. Last July, he surrendered to the President to deny his alleged links to illegal drugs./PN
