SAN JOSE, Antique – A man was killed while two others, including a village watchman, were injured in a commotion that ensued during the Christmas party of the San Pedro barangay council.
The party was also set for the awarding of winners in a Christmas lantern/lights competition and the induction of newly elected officers of the barangay’s association of persons with disabilities.
But gunshots were heard and a commotion ensued on Sunday evening at the barangay covered gym just before the distribution of prizes.
An unidentified officer detailed at the Community Police Assistance Center in San Pedro shot the 25-year-old Larry Claud, who allegedly stabbed the chief tanod Santi Gertos with a knife, police said.
Claud’s elder brother Ismael was also wounded after a grappling with another officer, Police Officer 2 Michael Garachico. The policeman claimed Ismael was also armed with a knife.
Claud was taken to the Delegate Angel Salazar Jr. Memorial Hospital but was declared “dead on arrival.” Ismael and Gertos were taken to the same hospital.
It was known that the Claud brothers and the Gertoses had a disagreement prior to the incident.
Larry Claud was once jailed after stabbing to death Jerol Tambanillo on June 27, 2008. He was released on bail, and the victim’s family did not press charges.
Sangguniang Bayan members Cris Jan Banusing and Erech Alocilja, also a resident of the barangay, were guests of honor and speakers. (PNA)
