ROXAS City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) urged local government units (LGUs) in Capiz to complement its declogging operation of drainage systems.
Drainage systems clogged with garbage results to flash floods when it rains, said Engineer Julius Abela, chief of the Maintenance and Construction division of DPWH-Capiz 1st Engineering District.
The 1st Engineering District is in the thick of declogging various drainage systems in Capiz in preparation for the expected heavy rains.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has announced that the country would be experiencing a mild La Niña these coming months.
The priorities for declogging are drainages along the national highway, said Abela.
In Roxas City, declogging has started in Barangay Lawaan while the drainage system in Barangay Sibaguan is seeing some maintenance.
But aside from garbage clogging in drainage e systems, there’s another concern. Abela said some private construction activities were disturbing drainage systems.
LGUs could help by, on their own, take the initiative of having declogging operations, he stressed./PN
