ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. would ally with congressmen Michael Gorriceta (2nd District), Raul Tupas (5th District) and brother, Lorenz Defensor (3rd District) in the May 2022 elections.
“Maupod kita regardless of (political) party,” said Defensor Jr., along with his confirmation of their meeting earlier.
“Ginsugilanon namon ang mga detalye sa municipal level kay may kandidato kita didto. May incumbent mayors nga kapartido nila,” Defensor Jr. said.
The Defensors are under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) with the governor being the chairman in this province.
Tupas and Gorriceta, on the other hand, are members of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
How about 4th District Cong. Braeden John Biron?
Defensor Jr. said “discussions” with Braeden John’s father, former congressman Ferjenel Biron, is ongoing.
Meanwhile, Defensor Jr. did not comment about having discussions with 1st District’s Cong. Janette Garin, a member of NP.
Soon, according to the governor, things would be all ironed out.
The filing of the certificates of candidacy will be on Oct. 1 to Oct. 8.

Defensor Jr. is still mum with regards to his running mate.
“That is developing,” he said, asking the public to give him time.
“Dali na gid lang. Madesisyonan na ina,” Defensor Jr. said.
Asked on what qualities he was looking for for a running mate, the governor said he would choose someone with the “same direction” as him.
Particularly, what the executive branch of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan demands, the legislative branch will support it, and vice versa, according to Defensor Jr./PN
