ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.’s wish this 2018 is to finish big-ticket projects before his term ends in 2019.
Among these projects are the P400-million redevelopment of the provincial capitol grounds, upgrading of the province’s district hospitals and the P11-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project (JRMP) Stage II.
Defensor is now in his third consecutive and final term as governor.
The redevelopment of the provincial capitol grounds includes the construction of a multilevel parking building.
The governor also would like to finish concreting all provincial roads.
The JRMP Stage II, on the other hand, is tentatively scheduled for ground breaking before this month ends or early February.
“Ang akon fervent hope mapadasig kay nabal-an ko nga it will take some time before it is finished,” said Defensor.
For the country, the governor wished for the resumption of the peace negotiations between the government and communist rebels.
“I hope our province would attain genuine peace,” said Defensor.
In 2017, there was a resurgence in rebel atrocities. Several ambushes were carried out by rebels. The Maasin police station was also raided.
“We cannot have real and meaningful peace unless and until we go back and talk to each other,” said Defensor, referring to the national government and the communists./PN
