ILOILO – Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. expressed confidence that in the days to come cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) here would drop just like in Metro Manila.

“Metro Manila’s cases started going down after three weeks of surges. Kon ano ang natabo sa Metro Manila, amo man ina matabo sa aton based on trend and behavior sang virus,” said Defensor.

From Jan. 28 to Feb. 3, the province recorded 1,929 cases, data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed. Here’s the daily breakdown:

* Jan. 28 (387)

* Jan. 29 (449)

* Jan.  30 (260)

* Jan. 31 (294)

* Feb. 1 (162)

* Feb. 2 (141)

* Feb. 3 (236)

Defensor reminded Ilonggos to continue observing the minimum public health standards – wear facemask, physical distancing and disinfection of hands.

At home, reverse isolation should be practiced by those who are constantly going out, he added.

“Indi dapat malatnan ang mga comorbid and tigulang kay kon sila malatnan our healthcare system will be overwhelmed,” said Defensor.

As of Feb. 3, Iloilo had 5,762 active COVID-19 cases. The death toll stood at 1,131.

Defensor also said negative results of reverse transcription – polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests would be asked of inbound travelers regardless of their vaccination status.

The inbound travelers could either be returning residents, non-residents and returning overseas Filipino workers (ROFs).

They are also required to secure a notice of coordination (NOC) from the city/municipality of their destination./PN
