BACOLOD City – The City Health Office (CHO) has recorded a concerning spike in dengue cases, with nine new infections and two probable dengue-related deaths reported during Morbidity Week 29, covering the period from July 13 to 19.
As of latest monitoring, the total number of dengue cases in the city has reached 592 since January — a 93.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Barangay Mansilingan continues to post the highest number of infections with 59 cases and one death, followed by Taculing with 44, Estefania (43), Tangub (40), Villamonte (32), Alijis (31 and one death), Vista Alegre (29), Sum-ag and Mandalagan (27 each), and 1 and Handumanan (26 each).
The most affected group includes female children aged 1 to 10 years, who account for 130 cases. Meanwhile, male children in the same age range registered 101 cases.
The CHO continues to urge residents to practice the “4S” strategy against dengue: search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; secure self-protection measures; seek early consultation; and support fogging or spraying in hot spot areas.
Officials are likewise intensifying monitoring and preventive measures in high-incidence barangays, particularly those with recurring clustering of cases. Community cooperation is being sought to eliminate stagnant water, which serves as breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
Health authorities warn that dengue can be fatal if not treated promptly and encourage immediate medical consultation for any signs of high fever, body pain, or rashes.
