CAPIZ – The total reported dengue cases in Capiz province this year has reached 879, according to the Provincial Dengue Case Bulletin released by the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Of these, four fatalities were recorded. Two were from Panay, and one each from Mambusao and Roxas City.
Dengue viruses spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus) mosquito.
Meanwhile, recent Capiz PHO data showed 13 new cases recorded in Morbidity Week No. 51, or from Dec. 17 to 23.
Of the new cases, nine were from Roxas City, and one case each was reported in Mambusao, Panitan, President Roxas, and Sigma.
The PHO has also identified clustering of dengue cases in Barangay Ilaya-Ivisan in the municipality of Ivisan, as well as in barangays Bolo, Tiza, Lawa-an, Dayao, and Banica in Roxas City.
With these, the PHO urged the public to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings to prevent mosquitoes from breeding.
Local health authorities are also intensifying their efforts to educate the public about preventive measures and the importance of seeking early medical attention for suspected dengue symptoms.
The public is encouraged to be vigilant and proactive in eliminating mosquito breeding sites, such as stagnant water, and to seek medical assistance at the first sign of dengue symptoms, including fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, and rash./PN
