Riding in a bicycle, San Miguel Beermen star center June Mar Fajardo made a grand entrance and annexed his sixth consecutive Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy during the 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Leo Awards held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.

Fajardo, who is possibly out of the rest of the 2020 PBA Season following a complete fracture on his right tibia, cemented his legacy by netting the league’s highest individual honor for the last six seasons.

During his speech, the Gilas Pilipinas mainstay thanked his parents. He said that they were his prime motivation to continue striving hard on the court.

“Sila lang naman ang aking motivation kaya akong nagsusumikap,” Fajardo said. “Gusto ko silang bigyan ng magandang buhay, na hindi na nila iniisip ang pambayad ng kuryente at ibang gastusin.”

Apart from his sixth PBA MVP award, the former University of Cebu center was also part of the 2019 First Mythical Selection Team and the All-Defensive Team.

He bannered the First Mythical team along with NorthPort Batang Pier’s Christian Standhardinger and Sean Anthony, Talk ‘N Text (TNT) KaTropa’s Jayson Castro and Columbian Dyip’s Jaymar Perez.

In the All-Defensive Team along with him, meanwhile, are Anthony, Japeth Aguilar and Earl Scottie Thompson of the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings and TNT’s John Paul Erram.

Meanwhile, in the second Mythical team are Aguilar and Stanley Pringle of the Kings, Roger Pogoy and Jeth Troy Rosario of TNT and Ian Sangalang of Magnolia Hotshots.

Perez, on the other hand, captured the Rookie of the Year plum, Beermen’s Moala Tautuaa netted the Most Improved Player citation and Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ Gabe Norwood gained the Sportsmanship Award for the third straight year./PN
