Desperate regime

BAGONG Alyansang Makaayan (Bayan) Panay describes the Duterte administration desperate as it continues its crackdown policy against legitimate legal democratic organizations.

The President is no longer capable of running the country’s affairs. He is desperate to silence its critics and aims to put up a dictatorship that will eventually press the nation into a deeper crisis.

The crackdown against progressive groups and its leaders are symptoms of a failing leadership, a clear manifestation of crisis that is waiting for its final blow that will generate greater resistance from the people.

The people’s movements are acts of exercising our democratic rights enshrined in the constitution. These rights are necessary for democracy and should not be treated as criminal acts.

The regime is the real criminal that continues to kill its people through its economic and political laws.

The issues brought by the people through demonstrations and rallies should be resolved in order to bring justice and peace.

But ordering the crackdown by criminalizing dissent and the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ and Philippine National Police’s modus operandi of planting pieces of evidence to legitimize their set-up raids will only fuel more the people’s disgust against the Duterte administration.

The President has really not learned from history. Dictators will always see their end through people’s mass movement.

Definitely, the people’s movement will not cower from the crackdown but will only gain more strength from it and will eventually succeed in the end. That has already been proven from Marcos and Estrada’s tyrannical and corrupt-laden administrations respectively.

People are urged to make do of the current situation to further strengthen the organizations, recruit more members and advance the mass movement. – ELMER FORRO, secretary general, Bagong Alyansang Makaayan – Panay <bayanpanay2014@gmail.com>
