ILOILO City – Dinagyang Festival’s Ati tribes competition resumes this year.

Last year, there was no competition due to the coronavirus disease pandemic.

Seven tribes are competing this year representing the city’s seven districts – Jaro, Mandurriao,  Molo, Arevalo, City Proper, La Paz, and Lapuz.

According to Prof. Eric Divinagracia, director of the Dinagyang Tribes Competition of the Iloilo Festival Foundation Inc. (IFFI), tribes will be judged twice – during their live performances (finished already, on December 2021; 60 percent of the total score) and during their digital performance (on Jan. 23; 40 percent of the total score).

The results of the judging for the live performances are already in.

“The results are now sealed in an envelope…it will only be opened in the presence of the tribes representatives together with the envelope of the scores for the digital performance (on Jan. 23),” said Divinagracia.

The chief judge for the live performance was the artistic director of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Kris Millado.

“He was very happy nga historical ining nakita nya nga more 152 Dinagyang warriors, drummers and artists performed together live,” said Divinagracia.

Major, technical and special awards await the winners.

The IFFI, however, has not yet disclosed the cash prizes for the winners.

The Dinagyang theme this year is “Padayon Iloilo! Upod kay Senor Santo Niño”./PN
