ILOILO – Residents of Barangay Tanghawan in Dingle town celebrated the completion of a long-awaited covered gymnasium, a P3.2-million project from the Iloilo Provincial Government that promises to serve as both a community hub and disaster evacuation center.
Inaugurated on August 1, the facility is designed not only for sports and social gatherings but also for emergency response, providing a safe shelter during calamities and health emergencies.
“This covered gym has long been our dream, and today, it has finally come true,” said Punong Barangay Gil P. Bignayan, who thanked Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. for turning their vision into reality. “Your unwavering support has been invaluable to our barangay.”
Defensor, in response, commended the barangay for their active participation in the project. “Thank you for facilitating this project that will serve our fellow citizens well. Now, let’s move forward with our next project,” he said.
The gym’s inauguration was attended by Dingle Vice Mayor Quindialem Villanueva, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, several barangay captains, and local officials from Tanghawan, highlighting the facility’s importance to the broader community.
Meanwhile, the provincial government is also implementing a P30-million improvement project for the 1.3-kilometer Tanghawan-Siniba-an Provincial Road. Construction is already underway, further boosting the barangay’s connectivity and development.
Governor Defensor reiterated the province’s commitment to delivering high-impact infrastructure, particularly classrooms, evacuation centers, and covered gyms. “These are critical to the welfare and resilience of our communities,” he stressed./PN
