ILOILO City – Former mayor Rolando Distura of Dumangas, Iloilo said he is open to the possibility of running for Provincial Board member in the 4th District in 2019.
But Distura said he will have to consult with his political allies before making any decision.
Distura has recently allied with Rep. Ferjenel Biron (4th District).
He and 25 local chief executives from the 2nd, 4th and 5th districts had a lunch meeting with Biron yesterday in Richmonde Hotel at the Iloilo Business Park.
In the 2016 elections, Distura sought re-election as Dumangas mayor under the Liberal Party but lost to Biron’s bet, Ronaldo Golez.
Biron – his wedding best man – reached out to him, Distura told provincial capitol reporters.
“Nami sini kay ma-solidify ang 4th District so wala kita nagpangduha-duha,” Distura said of his alliance with Biron.
“I’m more of a team player,” he added. “I can bring in experience sa group.”
Biron himself hinted at the possibility of Distura seeking Provincial Board membership.
Yesterday, the representative said his son, incumbent 4th District Board member Bryant Paul Biron, may give way to Distura.
“Kon makasugtan … I can be whatever is best for the district,” Distura said. He also quipped, “Pwede man gani nga wala.”
He will get the opinion of his allies first, said Distura.
“Bal-an mo damo man diri basi magtaas ang kilay, we have to admit,” he said. “Pero, again, objective man kita. Ako, ang pulitika sa akon, sobra pa na sa ginatawag nga serbisyo.”
Distura maintained that he remains with the Liberal Party but will work with Biron and his allies for the development of the 4th District./PN
