DOLE eyes special job program for 5,566 students in W. Visayas

ILOILO City – Around 5,566 underprivileged but deserving students in Western Visayas will avail themselves of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) in partnership with local government units.

“All our field offices have conducted pledging sessions and related activities to make sure that the target is met before the semester and the year ends,” said DOLE provincial information officer Niezel Anen Sabrido.

Sabrido said they already placed 181 students in Capiz and 15 students in Iloilo.

SPES is an employment bridging program during summer and Christmas vacation to augment the family income of poor but deserving students, out-of-school youths, and dependents of displaced or would-be displaced workers who want to finish their education.

“We are now starting because we have an exemption from the Commission on Elections for the implementation of the program this election season,” she said.

Sabrido noted the DOLE will allot a P20 million fund for its program counterparts this year. (With a report from PNA/PN)
