DUMAGUETE City – The administration of Siliman University (SU) has asked the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III to assume jurisdiction over a labor dispute case in the university.
A petition to the Labor department was filed by the administration, SU Director Mark Raygan Garcia said.
“Along with it was a prayer for the Labor secretary to issue an order for all striking faculty to return to work immediately,” Garcia added.
The petition was filed after DOLE met with the SU administration and the SU Faculty Association (SUFA) on separate meetings attended by the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council and the National Conciliation and Mediation Board.
The SU administration did not agree with the seven major points for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with SUFA, prompting the latter to go on strike.
SUFA was asking for P83 million in wages and benefits yet the SU administration only offered P63 million.
Teachers have gone on strike causing disruptions in some classes.
The administration ran “adaptive measures” to counter the effects of the strike.
Many parents were clamoring for an immediate solution to the dispute. (PNA)
