BACOLOD City – The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) is appealing to anyone who wants to donate items to families in Barangay Sum-ag whose houses were razed by fire.
DSSD head Pacit Tero said they have so far recorded 33 families affected after fire partially damaged 19 houses and totally destroyed seven houses in the village on Wednesday.
The affected families were temporarily staying at the village’s gymnasium.
Tero said the families need kitchen utensils, like cooking pots, and other household items.
The city government has earlier vowed to give financial assistance to the families.
Currently, the DSSD is providing them with food.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development will also give assistance to the families but Tero was not sure what kind.
Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, city fire marshal, said the blaze started at the second floor of Erwillo Daniel Oñate’s house.
Investigators said an electrical wire that melted caused the fire.
Earlier that day, fire also destroyed the house owned by Edison Hojilla, 80, in Barangay Singcang-Airport.
Hojilla died for not being able to get out of his burning house.
The fire that started around 12:30 a.m. also damaged three more nearby houses./PN
