MANILA – Ariana Dormitorio once again stamped class in the international scene after bagging again the overall championship in the 2017 Asian Mountain Bike Series in Malaysia.
The 22-year-old Ilongga rider was hailed the Female Grand Champion for the second straight year after ruling the fourth and final leg – 19-kilometer trek, five laps in the 3.8-km technical course.
Dormitorio bested 11 opponents – including second placer Zi Yin Chen of Chinese-Taipei and third placer Mohd Radzi of Malaysia – after clocking 1 hour, 35 minutes and 52 seconds.
Prior to ruling the fourth leg, the native of Dumangas, Iloilo also won the first leg in Japan in April, the second leg in Sabah, Malaysia in August, and the third leg in Timor Leste in September.
Meanwhile, national team member Eleazar Barba Jr. duplicated the feat of Dormitorio after bagging the overall championship in the men’s elite downhill event by winning three of the four legs.
Barba clinched the fourth and final leg over the 880-meter trek in 1 minute and 14.21 seconds.
Lagging behind him were teammates John Derrick Farr (second place) and Sean Mitchell Cura (fourth place).
With their overall championship feats, Dormitorio and Barba earned the precious Union Cycliste Internationale points that helped them improve their world rankings./PN
