ILOILO City – The Department of Tourism Region 6 joined the global dance-strike, One Billion Rising (OBR) spearheaded by the Ugsad Regional Gender Resource Center at the Sunburst Park, JM Basa St., Iloilo City on Feb. 14.
Personnel of DOT-6 participated in the event through dancing to show solidarity and to demand an end to violence experienced by more than one billion women worldwide.
The One Billion Rising dance-strike in Iloilo was participated in by other National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, State University and Colleges and private entities.
“Department of Tourism Region VI continuously campaigns to raise awareness on Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). One of the factors that this kind of problem occurs is because a woman does not know enough what her rights are and how to protect them. The community must be involved in defending the rights of women and children, thus, DOT VI has been organizing seminars and activities on Gender and Development (GAD) to increase awareness and promote gender sensitivity in the region,” DOT VI Regional Director Atty.
