ILOILO City – In an effort to further enhance security during this year’s MassKara Festival, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has deployed a specialized drone squad.
The squad is composed of one supervisor and 16 personnel.
“These trained personnel, equipped with drones, will assist in monitoring and patrolling activity areas,” PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack L. Wanky said, highlighting the role of advanced technology in ensuring comprehensive surveillance and public safety throughout the event.
The four festival sites for the 45th edition of the festival are Bacolod public plaza, Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC), Lacson tourism strip, and The Upper East-Megaworld.
Aiming for a zero MassKara-related incidents, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) had earlier announced that around 1,859 joint security personnel were deployed beginning October 11 to ensure peace and order during the festival.
The security personnel include 1,199 from the Philippine National Police (PNP); 330 from other agencies like the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine Army; 230 force multipliers; and 100 from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and rescue groups.
Also, a citywide gun ban is in effect, following the temporary suspension of the permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR). The ban, which began at 12:01 a.m. on October 11, will remain in place until 11:59 p.m. on October 27, 2024.
