ILOILO City – Drug surrenderees who completed their rehabilitation at the city’s various “community change centers” (CCCs) will undergo skills training at the Technical Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC) campuses in Molo district and Bo. Obrero, Lapuz.
On Friday, the city government launched the skills training program for 204 drug surrenderees in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA).
“We are giving them a second chance in life through treatment and rehabilitation and offering them livelihood programs that may ease their economic burdens,” said Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said.
According to Dr. Bernard Caspe, City Health Office (CHO) chief, the skills training is part of the after-care program for CCC graduates.
The drug surrenderees graduated on Jan. 12, 2017 after four months of rehabilitation which started on September 2016.
“After the graduation, they will have now skills training para sa ila livelihood para maka-provide man sila sa ila family,” said Caspe.
Among the skills training that TIIC offers are cooking, masonry, driving, carpentry, computer literacy, and food and beverage services.
The city government will provide necessary materials needed for the training skills, added Caspe.
The skills training will be conducted every Friday. It starts this week.
After the skills training, the surrenderees will be given with certificate from TESDA.
“DOLE will also provide equipment like welding machines, carpentry kit for them para may magamit sila after sang skills training,” said Caspe.
Caspe also added that there will be second batch of skills training to be provided for soon to be 164 graduates of CCC.
Meanwhile, TESDA chief, Toni June Tamayo lauded the skills training provided by the city government.
Tamayo also said the TESDA will now provide multiple skills training. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
