KALIBO, Aklan – A buy-bust operation resulted to the arrest of a 22-year-old drug suspect on Jan. 4 at around 7:45 p.m. on Roxas Avenue Extension, Barangay Andagao.
Justin Valdez Torrefiel, a second-year college student, was a resident of Sitio Hagachac, Barangay Baybay, Makato, Aklan.
He denied selling two sachets of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) to a police poseur buyer for P2,000.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), Kalibo municipal police station and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) about 150 meters from the Kalibo public market.
The police also seized a mobile phone, a motorcycle, a vape liquid, P3,000 cash, coin purse and identification cards.
“Hindi naman ako gumagamit ng shabu o marijuana. Hindi ako drug surrenderee,” Torrefiel said after his arrest.
Aklan PDEU chief Lieutenant Colonel Frenzy Andrade said the suspect was placed under surveillance for two months prior to the buy-bust operation.
“Mga bata ang mga parokyano…Kahapon pa tayo nakapag-deal, itong gabi naituloy natin ang operasyon,” Andrade said.
“Nakasuot ng body camera ang mga PDEA personnel sa buy-bust operation,” he added.
Torrefiel will be subjected to a drug test while the confiscated items will undergo further laboratory examination at the Police Regional Office 6 crime laboratory in Iloilo City.
The suspect faces a charge for violation of Section 5, Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
