ILOILO City – A sister of a dead drug pushing suspect in Jaro district was arrested in Barangay Tan Pael, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
Carla Jablo Ledesma, 40, was a sister of Rasty Jablo who, after disappearing from Jaro, surfaced in General Santos City last year and committed suicide there.
Ledesma and husband Arnel, 43, were subjects of a buy-bust operation on Monday around 3:15 p.m. Their house helper, 33-year-old Abelardo Tanatan, was also arrested.
The Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office carried out the sting operation. According to its commander, Chief Inspector Jojo Tabaloc, the Ledesma couple were classified as high-value targets.
Twelve sachets of shabu worth P12,000 were seized from Carla, said Tabaloc, while it was her husband who sold a sachet of shabu to PDEU’s undercover police officer.
They operated in Tigbauan and neighboring towns, added Tabaloc.
PDEU believed the suspects got their shabu supply from Barangay Desamparados, Jaro where Carla’s brother used to live.
The current barangay captain of Desamparados is Jablo’s widow, Noemi.
“The Ledesmas left Iloilo last year but returned early this year,” said Tabaloc.
Rasty Jablo was a suspected sub-group leader of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-identified drug lord Richard Prevendido. He hanged himself inside the lockup cell of Police Station 4 in General Santos City, South Cotabato province on Nov. 22, 2016.
Jablo had not been seen in Iloilo City since July 2016 right after the Philippine National Police launched its Oplan Double Barrel against illegal drug traffickers.
Four months after, Jablo was in the news. He took a six-month-old baby hostage in Barangay San Isidro, General Santos City.
The baby was a ward of his second cousin Edesa who working as nanny in that city.
With a knife, Jablo took the baby to Police Station 4 around 5:45 p.m. and demanded media coverage; he claimed he had something important to say.
The General Santos City police subdued Jablo and saved the baby.
According to reports from General Santos City, Jablo was acting strangely while in detention. He was repeatedly saying he feared for his life and believed the Prevendido drug group was after him./PN
