ILOILO City – Shabu was recovered from a police officer during a buy-bust operation in Barangay North Baluarte, Molo district.

Police Officer 1 Henson Digon of Barangay Tanza Baybay, City Proper sold a sachet of shabu to an operative of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Region 6.

A dismayed Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director, said Digon faces dismissal from the service.

“Wala tayong pinipili. Basta involved sa illegal drugs kahit police huhulihin natin,” said Gentiles.
Digon, assigned at the Regional Headquarters Support Group of the Police Regional Office 6 in Camp Delgado, was taken to the CIDG detention cell.

According to Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, CIDG regional director, Digon sold the sachet of shabu for P500.

The suspect was placed under surveillance prior to Thursday last week’s buy-bust, said Tayaba.

The CIDG learned that Digon was made to take the Character Aptitude Development and Enhancement Training in Camp Delgado on Aug. 22 after he was linked to illegal drugs.

Two more sachets were confiscated from Digon yesterday. The CIDG subsequently seized his service firearm, a 9mm pistol.

Digon declined to issue a statement to the press.

“His arrest showed that we do not tolerate our erring personnel. I will not hesitate to bring to court my own people if they violate laws, especially those involved in illegal drugs and other serious crimes,” said Gentiles.

The police director admitted getting mad after learning of Digon’s case.

“Everytime we have a conference, I always remind them na huwag gagawa ng kalokohan kasi hindi ako magdadalawang isip to put them to jail,” said Gentiles./PN
