CEBU City – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 7 is set to return to the national coffers some P7 million in financial aid for families and children of drug yielders.
Very few beneficiaries have availed themselves of the assistance, according to Administrative Officer III Anthony Arsenal.
Arsenal said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has failed to furnish their office a list of the drug personalities who surrendered to them.
The amount was released in July yet, also the month when the PNP started more aggressive antidrug operations, he said.
It was part of the nationwide interagency program dealing with the aftereffects of Oplan Double Barrel, including the surge in identified or self-confessed drug dependents needing rehabilitation.
Based on the guidelines of the national government’s program against illegal drugs, the PNP was supposed to provide the DSWD a list of the yielders’ names, something the police have failed to do, Arsenal said.
Social Welfare personnel themselves go to local governments to get updated lists of drug yielders, he said. (PNA)
