PASSI City, Iloilo – A 20-year-old man died while three others were injured after their car overshot a sharp curve and overturned into a grassy area in Barangay Man-it in this city early morning yesterday, June 11.
The victim, identified only as alias “Philip”, a resident of Dueñas, Iloilo, was seated in the front passenger seat when the crash occurred past 4 a.m. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to a head injury.
According to Police Captain Maria Rosario Miranda, public information officer of the Passi City Police Station, the group was traveling from Dueñas toward Passi City when the driver, alias “Leomar”, lost control of the vehicle along the winding road. The car veered off the lane and flipped into the roadside vegetation.
Leomar, 20, and two female passengers, aliases “Mary”, 23, and “Raine”, 21, sustained injuries. They were reportedly in stable condition following the incident.
Police believe the four may have come from a social gathering and suspect that alcohol may have been involved, although this is still under investigation.
Passi City police reminded motorists anew to exercise caution when navigating sharp curves, especially during early morning hours, and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol./PN
