Duterte admin determined to spend P9 trillion for infra push

MANILA – The Duterte administration intends to start new infrastructure projects in 2019, including roads and bridges, flood control, and mass rail transport, Budget secretary Benjamin Diokno said on Tuesday.

Diokno revealed at least 10 big ticket projects under the administration’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.

“Allow me to enumerate some of the projects lined up for 2019,” Diokno said in his remarks at the economic forum organized by the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP).

The major road and bridge projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for next year are the following:

  • Improving growth corridors in Mindanao Road Sector project
  • Road upgrading and preservation project (RUPP)
  • Central Luzon Link expressway (CCLEX) Phase 1

Major flood control projects of the DPWH:

  • Metro Manila Flood Management Project, Phase 1
  • Flood Risk Management Project (FRIMP) in Cagayan, Tagoloan, and Imus Rivers

Major rail transport projects of the Department of Transportation (DOTr):

  • PNR North 1 (Tutuban-Malolos)
  • Subsidy for Mass Transport (MRT3)
  • Mindanao Railway Project-Phase 1
  • Manila Subway Project-Phase 1
  • PNR South Commuter (Solis-Los Baños)

“We have 75 big-ticket projects under the Build, Build, Build program, and more than 4,000 smaller projects in various parts of the country,” Diokno said.

“From 2017 to 2022, we have committed to spend P8 to P9 trillion on public infrastructure. We plan to ramp up spending for public infrastructure to as high as 7 percent of GDP in 2022,” he said. (GMA News)
