DUMAGUETE City – President Rodrigo Duterte gave posthumous awards to the six policemen who were killed in an ambush in Barangay Magsaysay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
Duterte conferred them the Medalya ng Kadakilaan which were received by their family members.
The president arrived at the Guihulngan City Hall around 6 p.m. on Thursday where four of the six caskets bearing the slain police officers were brought.
They were Senior Police Officer 2 Necasio Tabilon, Police Officer 3 Teovic Agosto, Police Officer 2 Alvin Paul Bulandres, and Police Officer 2 Alfredo Dunque.
The remains of the late Guihulngan police chief, Superintendent Arnel Arpon, were brought to Hinobaan, Negros Occidental, while those of Senior Police Officer 1 Jesael Ancheta were in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental.
Duterte had a private talk with the families. He said the families will receive P500,000 each.
Last July 21, about 15 police officers responded to a call for assistance after Guihulngan City Councilor Edison Dela Rita told the city administrator that he and his two companions were ambushed. (PNA)
