MANILA – Senators Francis Pangilinan, Risa Hontiveros and Antonio Trillanes IV reacted to Davao City mayor Sara Duterte’s remarks calling them “plastic” and “oportunista.”

Pangilinan said he was “saddened” by the allegations of Mayor Duterte.

Mayor Duterte had claimed Pangilinan sought the endorsement of President Rodrigo Duterte years ago.

Hontiveros said she is “grateful” for Mayor Duterte’s support during her senatorial bid.

Mayor Duterte claimed Hontiveros approached and called her many times to seek support for her election campaign.

“Risa Hontiveros – Sa picture ikaw ang pinaka makapal ang foundation acheng. Habang tinutulungan ko si PRD at ang nanay ko mangampanya, nasa byaheng du30 ako, ilang beses mo ako inabala, kinulit at tinawagan para humingi ka ng tulong sa boto mo sa Davao City,” Mayor Duterte said in a social media post. “I can remember your bored face listening to me in our law office just so you can get support for Davao.”

One of President Rodrigo Duterte’s vocal critics, Hontiveros said she has always been consistent with her stand on human rights and extrajudicial killings.

“My stand on the war on drugs and my current criticisms of the administration should come as no surprise,” said Hontiveros.

“Dissent is healthy in a democracy. It serves as a check and balance to abuse of power and a way to better governance. It should never be viewed as a hindrance,” she said.

For his part, Trillanes admitted seeking Rodrigo Duterte’s endorsement but said it was before he learned that the President was a “killer.”

According to Mayor Duterte, Trillanes wanted to be her father’s vice presidential running mate in the 2016 elections.

No. You know why? I never liked your circus sa Manila Peninsula,” she said.
